한국시각으로 23일 17시 정각, 워싱턴 시각은 23일 03시, 앞으로 남은 비행시간은 6시간 50분. 앞으로 남은 거리 약 6,200km, 전체 비행구간의 거의 중간을 날고 있는 셈이며, 날짜변경선은 이미 넘었다.

속도 시속 1029km, 고도 10,972m, 창 밖으로는 오로지 비행기 날개의 불빛만이 반짝인다. 그 불빛마저 없다면 암흑으로 가득한 공간을 헤쳐 날아가고 있는 것이다. 가끔 기체가 흔들리기는 하지만 편안한 비행을 하고 있다. 20분쯤 전에 간식시간에 피자를 바닥에 떨어뜨렸지만 수습한 상태다.

일반 이코노미 좌석이 생각보다 넓고 편하다. 정원이 차지 않고 여유가 있어서 아내와 나는 세 좌석으로 둘이 사용하니 더 편하다.
난생 처음 가보는 미국. TV와 영화로만 보던 워싱턴, 뉴욕, 마이애미, 올랜도. 거기에 도착하면 어떤 기분일까? 어린 시절, 소풍 전날 밤이나 수학여행 전날 밤에는 그렇게도 설레였는 데, 이미 너무 커버린 걸까, 그런 느낌은 별로 들지 않았었다. 컨퍼런스 각 세션의 내용에 대해서, 여행지인 4개 도시에 대해서도 더 공부하고 준비하고 싶었지만, 바쁜 일상과 게으름으로 얼떨결에 떠나온 느낌이다.
아내와 신혼여행으로, 출장으로 중국을 두 번 정도 다녀온 뒤로 처음 가는 여행이라 새로 신혼여행을 가는 느낌이 조금 들기도 한다. 아직, 경제적으로 크게 여유로운 것은 아니지만, ICF 국제코치연맹의 2009년 컨퍼런스에 참석하여 세계의 코치들과 교류하고, 그들의 정보, 생각, 분위기를 느껴보는 것은 앞으로 내가 더 성장하는 데에 많은 자극과 에너지를 줄 것이라는 판단에서 이번 여행을 결정했다.
아내는 이것을 빌미로 그 동안 그렇게 가고 싶었던, 현대 세계여성들의 로망, 뉴욕에 가보게 되었다. 소원 풀었네…
지금 우리는 깊은 밤하늘을 날아서 그곳으로 가고 있다.

ICF Conferences and events offer coaches new techniques and concepts through incredible programming, opportunities to network with other coaches and lots of fun.
Each year, the ICF hosts an international conference. In addition, regional ICF Conferences are regularly hosted in Australia and Europe and many local ICF Chapters hold events throughout the year. Coaches who attend these events have the opportunity to earn Continuing Coach Education Credits (CCEUs).
The call for presentations closed on April 15. Information on how to apply to present at the 2010 ICF International Conference will be posted in early 2010.

The ICF developed and promotes an industrywide Code of Professional Standards. ICF also developed the first universally accepted Accreditation process which will preserve the integrity of coaching through standardized credentials that will assist consumers in choosing professional coaches.
